One of the first projects of the Alliance was to coordinate a pilot program to combat aggressive driving.  The Alliance joined the New Jersey State Police Aggressive Driver Campaign already in existence.  The goal of the campaign is to reduce the number of motor vehicle accidents, resulting injuries and fatalities, caused by the aggressive driver.

With the shore area being a popular destination, the Alliance's goal is to reduce accidents and save lives over the Memorial Day Weekend, and then carry that theme into the summer season.  Aggressive Driver Details are scheduled for the travel day before a holiday weekend.  Participating police department identify an intersection or stretch of road within their jurisdiction where they want to be visible.  There is an emphasis on high visibility and enforcement, utilizing marked and unmarked police vehicles to identify violators.  There is also an emphasis on education, with police personnel distributing handouts detailing aggressive driving and what occurs as a result of aggressive driving, as well as the aggressive driving campaign and its goal.

The Aggressive Driver is anyone who operates their motor vehicle in an offensive, hostile, or belligerent manner, creating an unsafe environment for the remainder of the motoring public.

The Aggressive Driver is identified as one who commits violations such as:

Speeding
Following Too Closely
Unsafe Lane Changes
Driving While Intoxicated
Driver Fatigue
Careless Driving/Driver Inattention
Disregard of Traffic Signals & Signs
