BOOST AMERICA CAMPAIGN
The South Jersey Traffic Safety Alliance has worked with the County Sheriff's Office and County United Ways to bring Fords Boost America Campaign to Atlantic, Cape May and Salem Counties.
The Ford Motor Company provided a grant to National United Way to purchase highback and backless boosters. Local United Ways could then request the seats to distribute to low income and minority qualifying families. However, the United Way organizations did not have certified technicians to ensure that the seats were installed correctly, but the Sheriff's Offices of each county did. Thus, the partnerships were created.
Boost America Campaign is a highway safety campaign to educate, change attitudes, increase proper child safety seat use and increase booster seat use. Instituted nationwide, the program is aimed at keeping children safer when their parents get behind the wheel.
Why booster seats?
Vehicle seat belt systems are designed for adults, therefore do not fit children under 80 pounds correctly. The booster seat is designed to raise a child so that the vehicle seat belt system crossess at the hips and shoulders, the strongest parts of the body.
